Abrasives are generally classified as natural or synthetic.
The key characteristics include:

  • Particle size (maximum size and size distribution)
  • Shape (rounded, angular etc.)
  • Density
  • Hardness (value expressed in Mohs)

Mohs is a scale of hardness (1 – 10) where a higher number denotes a greater resistance to scratching.
(e.g. copper coin - 5, window glass - 6 & diamond - 10)

calcite granulates

Restorative Techniques CALCITE 140

3 Mohs hardness

Supplied in 25kg bags on 1 tonne pallet

Granules are more rounded and opaque than those of Dolomite.
Our Calcite abrasive is denoted as ‘140 micron’ grade, ˃200 microns.
Natural, fine and ‘soft’.
It can be used selectively to remove softer oxidations, but retain harder ones.

Used primarily for cleaning, it is not generally suited to coating removal

dolomite granulates

Restorative Techniques  DOLOMITE 140

4 Mohs hardness

Supplied in 25kg bags on 1 tonne pallet.

Note the ‘cuboid’ shape and transluscent appearance.
Our Calcite abrasive is ‘140 micron’ grade, >200 microns.
Natural, fine and ‘soft’.
Used for cleaning and lighter coating removal.

Aluminium Silicate 250 – 7 Mohs hardness

Restorative Techniques ALUMINIUM SILICATE 250

7 Mohs hardness

Supplied in 25kg bags on 1.05 tonne pallet.

Granules are synthetic and vitreous in appearance.
The most popular of our two grades of Aluminium Silicate and ‘250 micron’ grade.
Best suited for coating removal and cleaning of tough substrates.

Not suitable for terracotta

Restorative Techniques ALUMINIUM SILICATE 180

7 Mohs hardness

Supplied in 25kg bags on 1.05 tonne pallet.

Granules are synthetic and vitreous in appearance.
One of our two grades of Aluminium Silicate, this picture is ofour finer ‘180 micron’ grade. Best suited for light coating removal and cleaning of tough substrates.

VorTech (VorTechnique)vortech
Swirling, gentle vortex abrasive system offered in a variety of options and descended from the well known Jos system. We have incorporated a large number of considerable improvements into VorTech, including versions allowing the operator remote control adjustment of the air and granulate flows, offering even further advantages than ‘established’ systems, including more effective use of water and reduced granulateJOS approved granulates wastage. The system uses swirling vortex type nozzles, in sizes ranging from 9.5 down to the small Jos Piccolo of 3mm.

ThermaTech (ThemaTechnique)
Modular range of machinery that develops vortechsuperheated water capable of tasks such as paint removal. ThermaTech is not a single machine, it is about modular design. Depending on the specification, connect the pump, boiler and accessory for the task this system is about versatility & portability. Lock together ‘all-in-one’, mount on a skid, or on wheels, or separate to carry through a building and easier van loading and offloading. Safety in 230/110v options and red hosing to signify the use of hot water. Reliability & servicing – dual temperature controls, operator diagnostics, 24 volt controls, jerrycan fuel tank.
Both Systems Available for Sale & Controlled Hire
