ThermaTech
ThermaTech is being very well recieved in the industry with good sales. In one week we had 8 orders, so we are extremely pleased that our new products are doing so well. subsequently we had 3 orders in one day.
Here is a typical comment from one of our customers:
” We found Thermatec to be an improvement on the currently available Doft system. It is well engineered, robust and appears to have a greater out-put than its rivals – all this makes it a more cost effective and efficient machine for removing paint or air-born pollutants in our opinion.

One of the features of ThermaTech not found in ccompeting products is safety. It does not have the fuel tank built in, but instead has a jerrycan fuel tank, that can be removed so that the machine can be left in situ with only the jerrycan needing to be stored securely to meet health and safety requirements.
In addition it has a Lock together ‘all-in-one’, mount on a skid, or on wheels, or separate to carry through a building and easier van loading and offloading. Safety in 230/110v options and red hosing to signify the use of hot water.

Stone cleaning systems
Our details are now available from RIBA. Here is a short excerpt:
Restorative Techniques is an innovative supplier of surface cleaning systems and products. Its technical expertise ofmaterials and substrates is based both on professional knowledge and also long experience in the use of safe cleaning and paint removal techniques. The company technically supports both practitioners and specifiers involved with conservationn and restoration projects and, on request, can supply referral details of contractors suitable for particular projects.
Applications Products & systems are used in safe and effective restoration, cleaning and paint/coating removal in architectural and industrial applications. These include the maintenance, conservation and refurbishment of all buildings, including listed structures and heritage sites.
Green issues
Equipment is productive & efficient in terms of both energy and water consumption. High efficiency electric motors arefitted as standard with the
alternative of economical air powered options. Systems are designed and constructed for repeated reconfiguration/recommission, long servicability
and, at end of life, recyclability.
Stone Cleaning
Restorative Techniques are not just offering their newly launched VorTech system, the latest development in the original Jos gentle swirling vortex lineage, but also a range of chemicals and other products for caring for the fabric of buildings.
Restorative Techniques have a strong focus on using their technical expertise in understanding the effects chemical products and individual formulations can have on a material.
They believe all suppliers, especially those who make their products available for use on the wide variations of substrates in historic buildings, should understand the products so they can advise on the hows¹ and whys¹ on a given surface.
By fully supporting both customers and specifiers through the decision making process and by helping them select the right product for the right surface and application, Restorative Techniques say a successful outcome is more likely. It also means less time and money is spent finding the right products for a particular project.
Restorative Techniques are offering a wide range of chemical products that are being marketed under the ŒRestorative¹ banner with names that take the Ronseal approach to naming by doing exactly what it says on the tin.
Restorative Copper Stain Poultice¹, for example, does not leave much doubt about what it is for. Paint softeners are called Restorative Paint Softener Acrylic Types¹ and Restorative Paint Softener Polyurethane/Oil Types¹.
Alongside the expected poultices and paint softeners, Restorative Techniques are also holding in stock a variety of clays and pulp components for contractors and conservators who wish to make their own poultices traditionally used by the stone industry.
There are occasions when a clay-based poultice is ideal, yet masonry companies do not usually want enough of it to make it economical to buy. If they do buy a large amount they have nowhere to store it. So Restorative Techniques are buying such poultice components in wholesale quantities to sell on in smaller quantities to masonry and conservation companies. They will also supply recipe mixes for the products on request.
In the Restorative¹ brand so far there is: Latex Cleaning Poultice; Paint Softener Acrylic Types; Paint Softener Polyurethane/Oil Types; Copper Stain Poultice; Iron Stain Poultice; Sacrificial Wax; Marker Pen Poultice; EDTA Cleaning Gel; Exterior Surface Cleaner; Sepiolite Clay; Attapulgite Clay; Bentonite Clay; Paper Pulp (Arbocel).
First new cleaning product launched by Restorative Techniques
Restorative Techniques, the new stone cleaning equipment firm set up by Jamie Fairchild, the former Director of Jos/Torc company Stonehealth, has launched its first product – VorTech. It is a gentle, swirling vortex abrasive system and a descendant of the original Jos method. The first one has already been bought by Martin Gaynor of Gaynor Masonry in Birmingham.Restorative Techniques Limited March 2010
We are suppliers of cleaning systems, products and technical support for surface restoration and conservation. We have considerable experience and expertise in the use of cleaning and paint removal techniques. Our advice is detailed and measured and designed to give confidence to both user and specifier.
Jos/VorTech
The first set of equipment to come to production is a swirl abrasive system, the full name of which is ‘VorTechnique’, or ‘VorTech’ for short. VorTech uses a stator & nozzle
design very similar to existing Torc/Rotec/Rotosoft types. Now that prices are much more reasonable, we also offer the original and very popular JOS ‘Micro’ and ‘Piccolo’ nozzles.

Now that prices are much more reasonable, we also offer the original and very popular JOS ‘Micro’ and ‘Piccolo’ nozzles.Several variants are offered including electric and pneumatic options. However, the standard system will be found more compact and portable having a low profile air cooler design and a very neat air operated water pump. The pressure pot design can handle more air.Prices for complete systems, with delivery and induction, start at £7400.Options include ‘all pneumatic’ and remote pressure and granulate adjustment;
- Self contained air cooler (fan driven by compressed air) – non electric.
- 110 & 230v high pressure water pumps are optional. Air operated water pump is now standard (considerably smaller and lighter).
- Remotely adjustable air pressure (on the hose set instead of the pot).
- Remotely adjustable granulate flow (also on the hose set).
These options can be added to the basic system or retro fitted to existing older equipment.
Example; New VorTech system including nozzle, with air operated water pump, remote pressure adjustment, manual granulate adjustment, 110v air cooler, delivery and induction £7600 +vat.

ThermaTech
We are also building a range of superheated water equipment.
These will be of modular design allowing different pump, boiler, fuel tank and accessories to be connected. The name for this is ‘ThermaTechnique’ or ‘ThermaTech’.
There will be 3 pump options;
- Standard performance 2.5kw 230v motor driven pump.
- Reduced performance 2.2kw 110v motor driven pump.
- Full performance petrol engine driven pump/generator (direct drives the pump head but also generates approx 1kw of 110v to run one/two hotboxes and some lighting).
….and two hotbox options;
Standard performance dual voltage ‘hotbox’ (110/230v) having a tubular frame and 20litre jerrycan fuel tank. Boiler is actually 110v but with removeable 230/110v transformer that can be relocated next to the pump e.g. boiler on canal bank or barge, pump and transformer positioned 30m away.
Reduced performance (still 150°C but smaller, lighter less water) 110v boiler with 10litre jerrycan fuel tank.
We are placing a much greater emphasis on ergonomics, health and safety, reliability and ease of servicing (including easier operator diagnosis and servicing) e.g. standard hose colour is red, boiler controls are 24v, twin safety valves, dual thermostat controls & digital temperature readout. The pump can be supported on the boiler frame (converting it to an ‘all in one’) but still allowing pump, boiler and fuel tank to be separated for transportation and positioning on site.
New company promises more developments in stone cleaning
Restorative Techniques Ltd may be new to stone cleaning but the people behind it are not. The new company has been set up by Jamie Fairchild, the former Technical Director of Jos / Torc and Doff company Stonehealth, who is joined by two other former employees of Stonehealth. The standard electrical system can be upgraded to include optional extras such as remote pressure adjustment, which allows the operator to adjust the system from a control set near the nozzle.
VorT also comes as an all pneumatic version that does not require an electric supply. It is somewhat more sophisticated (which is reflected in a slightly higher price) as it uses a different water pump and air cooler driven by low pressure air.
When the system is not being used, the abrasive closes off immediately, saving time when restarting and avoiding abrasive wastage. A remote pressure adjustment is also fitted as standard on this version. Another significant advantage of the pneumatic VorT is that it also allows the subsequent rinsing of the cleaned surface to be carried out using an air / water mix, making it 2-3 times faster than using water alone and reducing the amount of water needed.
Both the electrical and pneumatic versions of the VorTechnique use vortex nozzles, although these are interchangeable with nozzles otherwise commercially available for any company who wants to be able to use equipment they have already purchased. Restorative Techniques are also about to launch a new superheated water cleaning system called ThermaTechnique (ThermaT).
This combines the best elements of hot water pressure washing and steam for efficient cleaning with lower water consumption.
ThermaTech is not a single machine, but a modular design, so you can decide the specification you need and connect the pump, boiler and accessory for the task.
The key elements are:
● Versatility and portability. There is a
lock together all-in-one mount on a skid
or wheels, or ThermaT can be separated
from the mount to carry it through a
building and to make van loading and
offloading easier.
● Safety. 230/110V options.
● Reliability and servicing. Dual temperature
controls, operator diagnostics, 24V
controls, jerrycan fuel tank.
As well as selling this new range of
machinery, Restorative Techniques are also
offering ‘controlled hire’, so the price is particularly
favourable for longer hire periods.
Hire will be strictly controlled to reassure
specifiers and prevent inappropriate use of
the equipment.
Restorative Techniques are also offering a
range of chemical cleaners, including paint
softeners, copper and iron stain treatments
and latex cleaning products. Poultices supplied
are normally ready-to-use, but
Restorative Techniques can also supply
many of the difficult to source ingredients
for masons to make up their traditional
brews for masonry cleaning.
