Restorative Techniques VorTech vortech

Swirling, gentle vortex abrasive system offered in a variety of options and descended from the well known Jos system. We have incorporated a large number of considerable improvements into VorTech, including versions allowing the operator remote control adjustment of the air and granulate flows, offering even further advantages than jos‘established’ systems, including more effective use of water and reduced granulate wastage. The system uses swirling vortex type nozzles, in sizes ranging from 9.5 down to the small Jos Piccolo of 3mm.

The VorTech (full name VorTechnique), is a gentle, swirling vortex abrasive system for the removal of brittle soilings and coatings. The system allows the precise metering of selected abrasive from a pressure vessel into a flow of compressed air. The air/abrasive mixture passes through a hose to the nozzle where water is injected and the mixture rotated into a swirling vortex. The mixture exits the nozzle through a tapered ceramic sleeve, the geometry of which can be changed, one sleeve for another, to suit the scale and nature of the cleaning. The pressure, the concentration of the abrasive, and the amount of water addition can all be adjusted with the controls provided.
The VorTech uses a stator & nozzle design very similar to existing swirling vortex types, but we also supply the original and popular Jos ‘Micro’ and ‘Piccolo’, now much more affordable.

Prices for a complete system, with delivery and induction, start at £7400 with operator training being carried out by Jamie Fairchild. Despite the selling price, this standard system has a higher output and yet is more compact and portable than others available, having a low profile air cooler design and a very neat air operated water pump. The standard pressure pot is capable of handling more air and correspondingly offers higher performance than similar systems and we are also able to offer the choice of electric and partially or fully pneumatic versions.

Using our technical expertise and knowledge of substrates, we have designed an advanced version of VorTech that delivers real benefits with a high degree of controllability in conjunction with enhanced performance that will outperform similar systems.

  • Remotely adjustable air pressure (adjacent to operator, on the hose set).
  • Remotely adjustable granulate flow (also adjacent to operator, on the hose set), the setting of which is displayed on a gauge.
  • Rinse-down mode using the air flow (instead of the water alone) combined with a small amount of water through the main nozzle but with the abrasive off. This is much faster and uses considerably less water.
  • Pneumatic granulate valve actually shuts off when stopping, resulting in less granulate wastage when re-starting.
  • Air operated diaphragm water pump (also considerably smaller and lighter than the high pressure electric type normally used) that can be clipped onto the pot.
  • Self contained air cooler (fan driven by compressed air) – no electric, no extra hoses.

All of these options can be added to the basic system and some retro fitted to existing older equipment.
